There is no more extensive and more ramified underground fortified area in the world than the one that was dug in the river bend of the Oder-Warta rivers more than half a century ago.
Until 1945, these lands were part of Germany (After the collapse of the Third Reich, they were transferred to Poland). However, the project was not fully implemented, and in 1945, Soviet troops broke through this fortified area, in some places using surprise, in others the weakness of the defending personnel, and in others with skillful leadership, creating assault brigades and literally breaking into the seemingly impregnable . network of pillboxes
At the end of World War II, Soviet troops discovered huge unfinished tunnel systems throughout Germany. The length of the main constructed part is approximately 30 kilometers from 80 planned and more than 50 firing points – pillboxes, divided by classification according to the massiveness and thickness of concrete – A, B, C … The largest – A has a wall thickness of 3.5 meters. Many pillboxes were never fully connected. The depth of the tunnels varies from 30 meters to 50 meters (in the northern part). According to the plan, the fortified area “LDCh” was supposed to be completely autonomous, including underground barracks/canteens/medical facilities. points and power plants.
